When you think about Christmas do you think about weight gain and guilt?
And when you think about January do you think of tight waistbands, deprivation and dieting?
Estimates vary but it’s generally believed that the average person puts on between 2 and 7lbs over the Christmas period.
And then, as if January isn’t depressing enough (cold, dark, spent all your money on Christmas), you start the New Year with a punishing set of resolutions designed to lose the weight you’ve just gained.
Sound familiar? This year it could be different.
Here’s the plan:
In November, you make some changes to your diet and improve your activity levels, to ensure your body is operating at its best for December.
In December, you stay focused and keep the Christmas treats to the Christmas period, rather than starting on the mince pies and wine on the 1st December (see my blog for more about this).
In January, you don’t feel so guilty, as you haven’t put on much weight, and you’re not feeling overindulged and angry at yourself. You go into the New Year feeling positive and rested, and you continue with your healthier attitude to food and exercise.
